How to choose the POS for your restaurant

The POS is the operational heart of your restaurant: orders, payments and much of your data flow through it. Choosing badly costs time every service and money every month. These are the criteria that really matter when comparing.

011. Proprietary hardware or your own device?

Many POS systems tie you to an expensive terminal they sell or rent you. A cloud POS runs on the tablet or computer you already own, with no proprietary equipment and no per-terminal fees. Less upfront investment and the freedom to add a station without asking anyone.

022. Orders should reach the kitchen on their own

The value of a modern POS is that the order you take on the floor appears on the kitchen display or the station printer without re-keying it. Check that it integrates orders and a KDS: that is what removes errors and speeds up the pass.

033. It should be connected to everything else

An isolated POS forces you to reconcile everything by hand. A connected one drops inventory with every sale, feeds reports in real time and shares the menu with the QR and reservations. Always ask what happens to the data after payment.

044. Fees and the small print of payments

Look at how it charges for card payments: per-transaction fee, fixed fee, lock-in. Being able to use your own card reader or a transparent gateway like Stripe avoids surprises. Work out the real cost at your volume, not the shop-window price.

055. It should be ready for regulations

With Verifactu on the horizon, your POS will have to produce billing records as the regulation requires. Ask the provider where they stand, when it will be available and whether it costs extra, and rule it out if there is no clear answer.

066. Learning curve and support

Hospitality has turnover: a new waiter has to understand the POS on their first shift. Try the interface before you sign and ask about support during service hours, which is when problems show up. Working offline is a plus you will thank the day the internet drops.

Sum up your decision in one question: does this POS make my service faster and give me my data, without tying me to hardware or opaque fees? If the answer is yes, you chose well. Tablezio’s POS was built with that idea.
